Implementation of The Habit of Reading Short Letters in Forming Students' Religious Character

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of the habituation of reading short surahs of the Qur'an in shaping students’ religious character and to analyze its influence on students’ spiritual and social behavior in daily life. This research employed a qualitative approach with a descriptive research type. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation involving school principals, Islamic Religious Education teachers, homeroom teachers, and students as research subjects. The results showed that the implementation of the habituation of reading short surahs of the Qur'an before the learning process was able to create a religious school culture that positively affected students’ character development, such as discipline, responsibility, politeness, worship awareness, and social care. In addition, the success of the program was influenced by teachers’ exemplary behavior, the religious atmosphere of the school, and family support in fostering students’ religious behavior outside the school environment. This study concludes that the habituation of reading short surahs of the Qur'an can serve as an effective and relevant strategy for religious character education in addressing the moral degradation challenges faced by the younger generation in the modern era.
